Email (Source) File Ingest

Load CSV and Excel file attachments sent by email into your cloud data warehouse with DLH.io.

Many systems and teams still share data by emailing a scheduled report or a spreadsheet. The Email (Source) File Ingest connector gives your connection an inbound DLH.io email address. Files attached to emails sent to that address are parsed and loaded into your destination, so emailed reports land in your data warehouse without anyone downloading and re-uploading files.

Common uses:

  • Scheduled report exports from SaaS and vendor portals that only offer "email this report"
  • Spreadsheets maintained by business teams, such as budgets, mappings, rosters and exclusion lists
  • Files from partners, banks or vendors that cannot grant direct system access

Sending data out by email instead?

To email the results of a SQL Data Query or an AI Summary to a person or distribution list, use the Email (Target) Destination connector.

Is there an API instead?

If the emailed report comes from a system that DLH.io already connects to, such as NetSuite, Salesforce or a payroll provider, a direct connector is usually more reliable than email. Browse connectors or ask our team about building one with the DLH.io SDK.

Pre-Requisites:

  • An email account or system that can send, or automatically forward, the file attachments to the DLH.io inbound address
  • A destination (target) connection, such as Snowflake, where the data will be loaded

Key Details:

  • Supported file types: CSV, XLS and XLSX

Setup Instructions

Follow the setup steps guide for configuring your Email (Source) File Ingest connection to enable data to flow into your destination via DLH.

Details on Sync Processing

Each email received at the connection's inbound address is processed as it arrives, and its supported attachments are loaded into your destination on the next Sync Bridge run.

Use SQL Transformations after each load to cast file columns to the data types you need.

Issue Handling

If a file does not load, check that it is a supported file type, that the first row holds the column headers, and that the email was sent to the correct inbound address, then resend it. If issues persist, please reach out to our Customer Support team.
