DLH.io documentation for Oracle BI Publisher

Oracle BI Publisher (BIP) has a long standing of incorporation in the Oracle space as a pixel-perfect reporting tool. Our leadership team has been using BIP for well over a decade, and the enhancements BIP has in Oracle Fusion to provide dataset outputs for report, etc. is constrained only by your ability to seamlessly automate the synchronization of the data to your target destination like Databricks, Motherduck, Snowflake, etc. That's where the DLH.io platform comes in to solve your use case.

Pre-Requisites

You'll need your BIP application details in order to configure your connector in DLH.io:

  • Username and password credentials with certain security authorization access
  • URL to your Oracle Fusion account (aka service account or environment URL, for example, https://accountname.fa.xx.oraclecloud.com)

Setup Instructions

DLH.io securely connects to your BI Publisher system. Using the form in the DLH portal you'll complete the following basic steps. To capture the information from your Oracle Cloud account follow these initial steps:

  1. Access your Oracle Fusion Cloud account
  2. In the main application console, determine the instance of your account. This is typically the URL in your browser address bar (ex: https://accountname.fa.xx.oraclecloud.com) once signed in but it can also be found by click on the Overview information: [screenshot]
  3. Create a new Oracle Fusion Cloud user (if one does not already exists, but we recommend creating a new service account user specifically for the DLH integration for separate login best practices and controls):
    1. Navigate to Tools > Security Console
    2. Click on Users and Add User Account
    3. Enter the necessary information and credentials and record them for later use in setting up the connection in DLH
  4. Grant the appropriate security Roles to the new service account user:
    1. Click on Create Role from the Tools > Security Console menu
    2. On the roles page, click Create Role
    3. Create a new role with a descriptive name, for example:
      1. Role Name = BIP_DLH_CONNECT_ROLE
      2. Rode Code = BIP_DLH_CONNECT
      3. Role Category = BI - Abstract Role
      4. Predefined Role = Uncheck this checkbox
      5. Description = Role used for DLH.io to connect to BIP
    4. Click the Next button on the Security Policies page
    5. Click Next on the Data Securities page
    6. Click Add Role on the Role Hiearchy page
    7. Search and select the following roles to add:
      1. BI Consumer Role
      2. BI Author Role
      3. BI Publisher Data Model Developer Role
      4. Content Administration
    8. Click the Add Role Membership button
    9. Close the dialog box if it does not automatically close
    10. Click Next
    11. Click Next on Segregation of Duties page
    12. On the Users page, enter the name of the new service account user then click the Next button
    13. Review the summary page and click Save and Close
  5. Next create your dataset in BIP and create a BIP connector in DLH.io
